This past week Iowa Libertarian Candidate for Governor Rick Stewart was detained at the Washington, D.C. headquarters of the DEA on the charge of simple trespassing.
Mr. Stewart says he was there protesting the denial of experimental Psilocybin therapy (type of mushroom) to a friend of his with stage four Cancer. During the event, seventeen protesters, including Stewart, staged a “die-in,” and were subsequently arrested. (A die-in is defined as a protest or demonstration where a group of people gathers and lies down as if dead)
This appeared on his Facebook page earlier this morning:

When asked if this would affect his campaign for Governor, Rick Stewart had this to say:
“I have no intention of withdrawing my candidacy, I will be the first choice for Iowa Governor for those who consistently believe in choice in regards to bodily autonomy, and that the government has no business interfering in the doctor/patient relationship.”
Rick Stewart is running for Governor with running mate Marco Battaglia. Mr Battaglia previously ran for Attorney General in 2018. Rick Stewart also previously ran for US Senate in 2018. If you would like to know more about their campaign or how to get involved please check out the links below.

We here at the HHWD can certainly appreciate an individual standing up for their rights and the rights of others against Big Government, and to see it from a Politician utilizing civil disobedience is always nice to see. We will have Mr Stewart & Mr Battaglia on the Hedgehog Watchdog Podcast sometime in the near future as part of our Summer Candidate Series. We look forward to that conversation!
