Mitchell Man Seeks School Board Position After Expulsion from School Board Meeting Last Year

6/6/21 By Devin Saxon. In a viral video last September, Reed Bender was forced to leave a school board meeting in Mitchell, SD for refusing to wear a mask. This Tuesday he’s seeking to take on that same school board as an elected member. Hedgehog Watchdog had the privilege of interviewing Mr. Bender where we asked him what his top goals are if he’s elected to the Mitchell School Board; of those goals Mr. Bender is seeking to stay clear of the mask debate:

“When people see me, or hear about me that’s what they want to talk about, they want to talk about this incident, that’s if they’re willing to talk to me. And that’s not my main objective by running for school board.”

Mr Bender continued:

“School systems across the United States, gym class is leaving, we’re not keeping these kids active like we should. Instead of focusing on the actual health of these children we are focused more on just give them drugs, and send them on their way, shut them up.”

“These kids need a place to expel this energy and they don’t have that anymore.”

“I think we should be working more on the health of these kids, teaching them how to eat right. We can create a culture within that school with teachers who I’ve known.”

“We can help these kids excel through life, life long lessons, by teaching them just that, how to be healthy and happy because that will solve so much of the Covid problems. Obesity is the number one indicator you’re going to have issues with it, right next to age. We can focus on that if we wanted to.”

“The second thing is, everything is going online. And our teachers are not good at teaching online. There’s so many brilliant people out there that we can bring into these kids’ lives you know, mathematicians, or scientists. These educators need to find ways to do that. As much as I hate kids being on screens all day, that’s a way we can better our school system, having our teachers be better at that, educating online.”

“The third thing is, I’ve got a couple friends and a couple teachers that I know that have pointed out to me the deficiencies in our special education. They need help, we need more teachers, they’re struggling, they don’t have the resources they need to educate these kids. It needs to be better.”

Reed Bender is running against 5 other candidates, all vying for two open seats on the Mitchell School Board; neither incumbent is running for re-election. The election is this Tuesday the 8th of June.

Recent developments regarding the use of masks for Covid-19 have emerged in an email obtained by a Freedom of Information Act request. Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr Fauci, wrote to former Human and Health Secretary Sylvia Burwell the following:

“Masks are really for infected people to prevent them from spreading infection to people who are not infected rather than protecting uninfected people from acquiring infection.”

“The typical mask you buy in the drug store is not really effective in keeping out virus, which is small enough to pass through material. It might, however, provide some slight benefit in keep out gross droplets if someone coughs or sneezes on you.”

“I do not recommend that you wear a mask, particularly since you are going to a very low risk location.”
