HHWD’s Guide to the LPSD 2021 State convention

With the South Dakota State Legislature recently coming to a close you probably thought you were safe from politics for awhile, well guess again buddy! We are just one week away from the convention that will shape the political landscape for Liberty here in South Dakota for the next two years.

Yes I am talking about the Libertarian Party of South Dakota’s Annual State Convention taking place at the Clubhouse Hotel & Suites March 20th starting at 2pm. Let the Hedgehog Watchdog be your guide to all the details of the fun and festivities that day.

The Convention is officially scheduled to start at 2PM, doors will open at 1PM. The Libertarian Party of Minnehaha County will be holding officer elections for their county affiliate shortly after 1pm before the start of the State Convention. If you are a local to Sioux Falls and want to get involved on the County level this is a great opportunity to get started and make an impact locally.

They will have several local political organizations speaking at the event, including Emmett Risteroffer who will be speaking about his proposed Initiated Measure to be able to recall elected State officials. Also speaking will be Lisa Nolen Deputy State Director at Americans for Prosperity SD, who will be giving a review of the recent Legislative session. A third organization is possibly on the schedule, newly organized group Ranked Choice Voting South Dakota to discuss what they have in the works.

Keynote speakers for this event will be Caryn Ann Harlos Secretary of the Libertarian National Committee. And Christopher Thrasher Executive Director of Voice for America.

This convention is especially exciting because every seat on the State Executive Committee of the Libertarian Party of South Dakota is up for grabs.

The list for positions are: ChairVice Chair SecretaryTreasurerCommunications DirectorMembership Director – (3) At Large positions and the recent addition last year of 3 Regional Coordinators: East River – West River – Sioux River

There is a Bylaw change proposal to eliminate the 3 At Large positions, since the addition of the Regional Coordinators makes them redundant.

Must be a registered Libertarian to vote for/serve on the Executive Committee. Membership and registration forms will be available that day for any new members. The LPSD is free to join for all registered Libertarians in South Dakota, however they do have a voluntary sustaining membership of $10 a year or a lifetime membership option for $250.

Tune in this week to the Hedgehog Watchdog podcast Sunday night at 7pm when we go live with guest speaker Caryn Ann Harlos as we discuss and get hyped for the convention!! Its going to be a great show.

We are also hoping to do an episode the following day after convention, March 21st at 7pm with as many newly elected Executive Committee members as possible. A libertarian round table discussion about the future of the party and promoting freedom in South Dakota.
