5/5/25 Michigan. By Devin Saxon. During public input at a LPMI meeting Sunday, Jay Gillotte, brought forward to the board his concerns about delegates being properly notified of LPMI’s upcoming convention.
“The problem was, I had to reach out to you to get information because you said you sent it but it never came to my address,” Jay Gillotte reports in the meeting.
Mr Gillotte was formerly a delegate of Michigan’s largest region, West Michigan. That region was recently disaffiliated by LPMI’s Executive Committee. Mr Gillottee spoke with LPA regarding the disaffiliation:
“When we didn’t recognize Andrew’s [Chadderdon] chair, we were disaffiliated. A move supported by the LNC (National Libertarian Committee).”
Addressing Mr Gillotte’s concerns regarding delegate notifications for their upcoming convention, Leah Dailey, LPMI’s 1st Vice Chair, responded that a failure to notify delegates sufficiently hasn’t occurred since March of 2024, “any correspondence has been rectified since then so I think this question is moot.”
“It may have been rectified, but it was an issue at that one point, we just want to be sure it doesn’t happen again.” -Gillotte
“I have gone through and. And I have um re-homed. I have fixed any (inaudible), I have solved any problems that has come about.” -Dailey
After assurances from Mr Gillotte that his public comments were “ just a question of making sure,” and after being thanked by Miss Daily for his input, disputed LPMI Chair and LNC Regional Representative Andrew Chadderdon, interjects in the proceedings:
“Mr Gillotte has recently sent a letter to the national committee as well as the state board claiming numerous violations of things that just simply didn’t happen.”
Chadderdon goes on to claim he has documented proof notice was sent properly for LPMI’s upcoming convention and concludes by stating:
“These people are seeking to undermine this party with false claims and misleading or overstated claims and we simply aren’t going to entertain this nonsense.”
Chadderdon then threatens to remove Mr. Gillotte from the meeting for “interrupting” him and rules Mr. Gillotte’s point of inquiry out of order.
Mr Gillotte’s letter to the national board (found below) mentions prior complications made by the current state leadership’s inability to provide proper notice, including the correct date and location of conventions.
State board member, Justin Miramonti, asks for clarification from Dailey regarding the convention notices she had sent:
“Did the notice that was sent out for this recent special convention delegate selection process include the date, time, and location of the meeting, including the precise link?”
“The notice has been sent out in compliance with the bylaws” -Chadderdon
“The Bylaws pertain to RONR which calls for the precise location, so I’m asking if precise location was included in the notice.” -Miramonti
“Is this question regarding the unaffiliated regions caucus?” -Dailey
“Yes” – Miramonti
“I’d like to move on at this time, it was done compliant with the bylaws and we don’t need to waste anymore time in the meeting on this matter.” -Chadderdon
“We have members who haven’t received notice and apparently that does not matter… if no one received the link with the notice, they didn’t receive notice.” -Miramonti
“No, they received information about the call and to request if they are interested, to provide information that I need to fill out all the information for the delegate slots.” -Dailey
“If I sent you a notice to a convention, would it be appropriate for you to have to ask for the address of that convention?… How many members attended this last unaffiliated caucus?”-Miramonti
“What I’ve determined is it’s polite of me…based on my own schedule to let them know hey I’m going to hold this caucus for you. If you are interested, now I sent this out to the subscribe, not just members, I sent it out to subscribe, which is hundreds of people. And I say if you are interested, please give your information that I need to fill out the delegation sheet which any of our affiliate chairs knows is not an easy task. So I ask them if you are interested, give me the information, when I make the zoom link, I’ll be sure to send it to you. Now your second question is how many people attended?” -Dailey
“Yes given that everyone received ‘notice.’” -Miramonti
“Very few.” -Dailey.
“Do you think if they got the link in the first notice there might have been more attendance?” -Miramonti
“I don’t think that. I have no reason to think that–” -Dailey
“See I do, because I know many members reached out to you for it–” -Miramonti
“Why would hundreds of people in the subscribe list in our database be interested in attending this previous special convention? This was an isolated incident of convention that not everybody involved wants to be involved with. So I don’t know what the relevance of that question is regarding the attendance.” – Dailey
Chadderdon claims the questions and concerns from Mr Miramonti are irrelevant:
“Not a lot of people wanted to attend a special convention for (inaudible) matters. And has no bearing on the matter at hand…These are intentionally misrepresented questions that are being used to try to hold back the party to try to cause more problems where there are none. And the fact that people don’t want to respond to inquiries to attend a convention where in any other circumstance if they had an affiliate they would have to attend a meeting. To get the information or to seek nomination.”
“Then get notice of that meeting including the location.” -Miramonti
“Sometimes, not every affiliate has that outlined in their bylaws.” -Dailey
“Then just disaffiliate them for it like we did with Macomb.” -Miramonti
“We’re not going down that road and they were disaffiliated for multiple reasons it wasn’t that.” -Chadderdon
“It was basically due to lack of notice.” -Miramonti
After coming back to order, LPMI District Rep Jeff Pittel, speaks next in the public commentary:
“I don’t know why you wouldn’t put the link in to satisfy Justin. Maybe that’s problematic, you wanted to get pre-information to fill out a spreadsheet of sort?… I think the only point of contention is the zoom link and I don’t know why we’re, why you can’t include that initially?”
“Because I want serious inquiries only. You want me to send this Zoom link out to our Michigan subscribe, and all these counties, just for we’ll call it ‘strangers’ to join the Zoom link? And then so I don’t think it’s that difficult if somebody is interested in the state party business to be a delegate then they might be in tune with the notice that is going out, they might be in tune with the emails that they have received. So I don’t think it’s too much to ask to say hey, hey member if you want to join and be a delegate you might have a really easy thing to do which is to respond to an email with some information.” -Dailey
Dailey, currently pursuing the Region 1 Alternate position on the LNC, goes on to conclude:
“I don’t think I need to send a Zoom link to the Michigan subscribe, hundreds of people, if they’re not actually interested in being a delegate. I don’t think it’s that hard, but if somebody wants to make a motion for me to send a Zoom link out to hundreds of people about being a delegate I’ve got no problem with that. I was just doing what I thought was reasonable. Thank you.”
“Are you obligated to send it out to everybody on the Michigan subscribe or just the Michigan members of the last 3 years?” -Pittel
“To answer that question I’d have to look at my search within the database, I don’t have it here in front of me”. -Dailey.
Miss Dailey goes on, “but it was a pain in the ass to have to click on every county and then go to lifetime and then go membership and then go to last 3 years. It is a pain in the ass.”
“There are complaints being raised by individuals who have either unsubscribed and not received those mass mailings, so they’ve opted out of their own choosing. They still receive a paper mailing none-the-less. And they don’t want to do the work to respond to an email to things to provide the information that’s required for being a delegate. This is again a group of people that is trying to create hurdles and create bottlenecks, by complaining for things that are beyond the rules, that are not part of our bylaws to call for extra efforts and they are trying to complicate this process to make our jobs harder as volunteers. And claim they are looking out for the best interests of the party when they are in my opinion working to sabotage the party” -Chadderdon
“Hear hear!” -Dailey
LPMI’s State Convention is this Saturday July 21st.
LETTER FROM MR. GILLOTTE:
Dear Sirs and Madams,
I am writing to inform you of a concerning pattern of procedural irregularities within the Libertarian Party of Michigan that may be of interest at the national level.
Specifically, the two most recent notices for unaffiliated caucuses to select delegates to the state convention were not sent to the full membership, but only to those residing in unaffiliated regions. Furthermore, the Zoom meeting link was not included in the original notices and was instead only provided upon request or on the day of the meeting. These actions appear to conflict with the notice requirements established in the Libertarian Party of Michigan bylaws and *Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised* (RONR).
This is one of several recent instances that suggest a troubling pattern of behavior by current state leadership—one that appears to limit participation and potentially contravenes member rights in ways that consolidate control over party processes.
Additionally, the current LEC, chaired by Andrew Chadderdon has been responsible for two deficient mailings regarding notice for two of the three most recent state conventions:
First Mailing: The notice included an incorrect address for the convention location. This error required a corrected notice to be sent, resulting in additional costs for the party.
Second Mailing: The summer convention notice for the Upper Peninsula listed the election date instead of the actual convention date. The correct date was only accessible by scanning a QR code on the postcard, which created confusion and hindered clear communication.
While I am not asserting motive, the recurring nature of these incidents warrants attention and documentation at the national level.
Sincerely,
Jay Gillotte
